Trauma Therapy for Correctional Officers
Nobody sees what happens behind those walls. This is a place where you don't have to explain it.
A Job Most People Will Never Understand
You spend your shift inside a closed environment most people will never set foot in — managing risk, tension, and volatility that nobody outside the walls ever hears about, then walking out the gate expected to leave all of it behind
Carried Out of View
There's a particular kind of isolation in doing high-stakes work that almost no one on the outside understands or even thinks about. It's not visible, it's rarely discussed, and that invisibility can make it harder to explain to the people who love you why you come home the way you do.
Our Approach for First Responders
We meet you where you're at. Some officers want to talk through a specific incident from inside the institution that's stayed with them. Others want to understand what's actually happening in their body — the vigilance that won't switch off, the sleeplessness, the short fuse — before they're ready to talk about anything else. Others come in wanting one thing: to feel close to their family again, after a job that trains you not to let your guard down. All of these are valid starting points. None is more "correct" than another. We just meet you where the work needs to begin.
Clarity Backed by Expertise
-
Yes. Everything you share stays private. We're not affiliated with any police service, and nothing is shared with your employer without your written consent, except where we're legally required to act on an immediate safety concern.
-
No. You can self-refer and book directly — no referral, no approval process, no paperwork through your service required.
-
Yes. We offer early morning, evening, and off-rotation appointments specifically because officers work rotating shifts, and a standard 9-to-5 booking system doesn't fit police schedules.
-
It depends where you want to start. Some officers want to talk through a specific call that hasn't let go of them. Others want to understand what's happening in their body — the tension, the sleeplessness, the short fuse — before they're ready to talk about anything else. Others come in wanting to feel closer to their family again. All of these are valid starting points.
-
Both. Some officers come in after a specific critical incident or diagnosis; others come because the cumulative weight of the job — irritability, poor sleep, disconnect at home — has been building for years. You don't need a diagnosis to start.
-
Yes. We work with both active and retired officers, including those navigating the transition out of policing.
-
Yes. OPP members, municipal/regional officers (including Kingston Police), RCMP members, and First Nations Police Service members are each covered under different plans with different limits. We can help you figure out what applies to you before your first session.
-
We're based in Kingston, Ontario, and offer in-person sessions and online sessions. You have to be physically located in Ontario to receive our sevices.

Whenever it fits your goals — individually, as a couple, or as a family. Many officers start with individual sessions and bring in a partner or family member later. Equally you may be the family member of a police officer who wants to make sense of their world.
Start Your Journey
Feeling better doesn't mean the job disappears — it means better sleep, a longer fuse, and being able to switch off once you're through the door. It's a partner who feels safe asking about your day again, and kids who stop reading your mood before breakfast. Small shifts that add up to feeling like yourself again.
